PAKISTAN/Ombudsman Sindh | Revise of financial provisions

An un-married sister of a deceased government servant approached the office of the Accountant General Sindh, Karachi applying for a family pension. The office of the Accountant General Sindh informed that there was no provision in the pension rules to grant pension to the complainant as benefit of the pension had already been availed by government employee himself and after him by his legal heirs i.e. widow and children.

Although Finance Division, Government of Pakistan had issued clarification that unmarried sister was entitled for family pension for life time or till her marriage yet she failed to get any relief. The Provincial Ombudsman Sindh exercising his powers directed the Secretary Finance Department, Government of Sindh to issue necessary directives in accordance with clarification by Finance Division, Government of Pakistan. This has enabled the eligible people to approach the authorities concerned for grant of family pension without any problem.
