PORTUGAL | Road collapse in Borba: Ombudsman calls on interested parties to submit compensation claims

The Ombudsperson, Maria Lúcia Amaral, asks the relatives and heirs of the five mortal victims of the collapse of Municipal Highway 255, which took place on November 19, 2018, in the Borba municipality, to file their compensation claims.

The application is made through the completion of the form available here, which must be submitted online or in person to the Ombudsman by February 28. The Ombudsman is available for any support or clarification through the blue line 808 200 084 and the address provedor@provedor-jus.pt.

For reasons of fairness and with appropriate adaptations, it has been decided that the compensation will be calculated by closely following the criteria set in the recent compensation procedure for the relatives of the victims of the major fires of 2017

If the compensation proposal is accepted by the respective applicant, the Ombudsman shall address the corresponding payment order to the Prime Minister.

As the head of the independent State body that defends citizens' rights, the Ombudsman accepted the request of the Prime Minister to lead the process of compensation for the families of the victims of the collapse of Municipal Highway 255, within the framework of a out-of-court mechanism of voluntary compliance.
