On 12 April 2022, IOI Secretary General Werner Amon met H.E. Volker Türk, Under-Secretary-General for Policy in the Office of the United Nations Secretary General at the UN Headquarters in New York.
Mr. Amon and Mr. Türk discussed the “Common Agenda” and perspectives for the IOI to contribute to an inclusive and networked multilateralism for sustainable development, as the only global network representing Ombudsman institutions in all world regions. “Our Common Agenda” represents the UN Secretary-General's vision on the future of global cooperation through an inclusive, networked, and effective multilateralism. The IOI’s core mission, i.e. connecting and strengthening Ombudspersons globally, is part of networked multilateralism on the rule of law, access to justice, and the promotion of effective, accountable and inclusive public services.
Secretary General Amon also took the opportunity of his stay in New York to meet Jochen Hans-Joachim Almoslechner, Deputy Permanent Representative of Austria to the United Nations in New York, and report on the progress of the IOI’s UN Working Group and its effort to forge closer ties with the UN system.
