UKRAINE | Signing of cooperation agreement with Ombudsman of the Russian Federation

On 12 July 2013, the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights, Ms. Valeriya Lutkovska, and the Commissioner for Human Rights in the Russian Federation, Mr. Vladimir Lukin, met in Moscow to discuss possible ways of cooperation.

The meeting between the two ombudsman institutions in Moscow led to the signing of an agreement on cooperation between the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights and the Commission for Human Rights in the Russian Federation.

"The agreement which we signed with the Ombudsman of the Russian Federation foresees that we will send replies to applications of citizens to each other in the shortest time possible which should not exceed one month from the receiving date. To accelerate this process, we decided to receive such applications by e-mail and to consider them as official documents", the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights, Ms. Valeriya Lutkovska, emphasized.

According to the Ombudsman of Ukraine, Ms. Valeria Lutkovska, the Secretariat of the Commissioner receives many applications from the citizens of Ukraine being in the territory of the Russian Federation. For the purpose of quick response to these applications it is necessary to cooperate closely with the Russian colleagues and to arrange effective communication.

The agreement will contribute to strengthening the cooperation of national institutions for human rights and will ensure the organization of mutual exchange of information, analytical and reference materials, both Ombudsmen stressed.
