Slovenia | Special COVID-19 website implemented and new Deputy Ombudsman elected

The Human Rights Ombudsman of the Republic of Slovenia has created a special page on its website, exclusively dedicated to the COVID-19 pandemic.

On the page are published information on the measures taken to stem and control the Coronavirus epidemic (COVID-19) in the Republic of Slovenia and the general (administrative) acts with which they were adopted by the government.

The section also includes the Ombudsman’s opinions and press releases, information and news from international organisations, important communications in the field of human rights protection, as well as other useful news and information. The COVID-19 page is regularly updated and supplemented with links to the ministerial measures not published in the Official Gazette of the Republic of Slovenia.

New Deputy Ombudsmen elected

On 5 March 2020, Ms Marjeta Cotman and Dr Jože Ruparčič were elected by the National Assembly of the Republic of Slovenia to the position of Deputy Ombudsmen of the Republic of Slovenia.

Ombudsman Peter Svetina, who proposed them, will again act with the assistance of four deputies, as permitted by Slovenian law. Mr Svetina entrusted Dr Ruparčič with the lead and responsibility of the field of children's rights, child advocacy and regulated and societal activities and Ms Cotman with the lead and responsibility of the field of labour law matters, environment and spatial planning, housing matters and unemployment issues. 

Ms Cotman and Mr Ruparčič, both lawyers, are distinguished by their wide professional experiences, knowledge and credibility, with which they will contribute significantly to the work and efforts Human Rights Ombudsman of the Republic of Slovenia, is investing to protect the human rights and fundamental freedoms of citizens of the Republic of Slovenia.
