UK | SPSO publishes 2016-2020 strategic plan

The Scottish Public Services Ombudsman (SPSO) published its new strategic plan for the period 2016 – 2020.

Under section 17A of the Scottish Parliamentary Commissions and Commissioners Act 2010, the SPSO has a duty to lay out a four year strategic plans to the Scottish Parliamentary Corporate Body (SPCB). The strategic plan must set out the office’s objectives and priorities during the four year period and how the office proposes to achieve them. Furthermore, it contains timetables and estimates of the costs.

The strategic plan for the period 2016 – 2020 concentrates mainly on six strategic objectives:

  • to provide a high quality, user-focussed independent complaints handling service
  • to provide a high quality, user-focussed independent review service for Scottish Welfare Fund decisions
  • to simplify the design and operation of the complaints handling system in Scottish public services
  • to improve complaints handling by public service providers
  • to be an accountable, best value organisation
  • to support public service learning and improvement
