IOI European Board members with the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Mr. Nikos Christodoulides
On 21 January Maria Stylianou-Lottides, Commissioner for Administration and the Protection of Human Rights of Cyprus, hosted the IOI European Board meeting in Nicosia. Mrs. Stylianou had arranged for an excellent programme which included a meeting with the President of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides, and facilities that allowed the team from Ukraine to attend the meeting online as our colleague Dmytro Lubinets had important work to do for his country.
The agenda of the IOI European Regional Board addressed topics such as who would represent the IOI European Board during conferences and what would be the goals of the board for the next two years. Furthermore, the board explored what could be done in the next Ombuds Academies and how the burden of organising such events could best be shared. The IOI European Code of Ethics that was adopted by the IOI European Regional Board meeting in The Hague needs a follow up and this was discussed together with the implications of the Venice Principles and the UN Resolutions that refer to them.
At the end of the meeting the board met with journalists. The whole delegation enjoyed the great hospitality and excellent cuisine of Cyprus. In an upcoming newsletter for the European Regional IOI members, more information on the content of the meeting will be shared.
