MALAWI | The Office of the Ombudsman of Malawi supports the Anti-Corruption Bureau

In the spirit of solidarity and oneness, on 9 December 2023,  the Office of the Ombudsman joined the Anti-Corruption Bureau in Commemorating the International Anti-Corruption Day (IAD) and the bureau’s 25 years Anniversary in Balaka.

The IAD was designated by the United Nations (UN) to enhance corruption prevention and promote transparency and strengthen institutions.

According to the ACB’s Director Martha Chizuma the 2023 IAD sought to highlight the crucial link between anti-corruption and peace, security, and development.

And the local theme for the day was 'Together Towards a Corruption Free Malawi-2063.'

On 11 December 2023 Ombudsman Grace Tikambenji Malera led a team from her office to the commemoration of the International Human Rights Day (IHRD) which took place at Chigumukire Primary School in Blantyre.

President Lazarus Chakwera presided over the day.

President Lazarus Chakwera visited the Office of the Ombudsman's pavilion where he appreciated some of the work that the Office is doing in upholding people's rights through tackling maladministration and promoting administrative justice in public institutions.

During which the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights was celebrated and Ombudsman Malera described the declaration as a milestone.

Malera sits in the Malawi Human Rights Commission as a commissioner as provided by law.

The IHRD falls on 10 December every year, and this year it is commemorated under the theme: 'Freedom, Equality and Justice for All'.
