IOI | UN High Commissioner for Human Rights meets IOI Secretary General in Vienna

On 6 June, IOI Secretary General Gaby Schwarz welcomed the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Mr. Volker Türk, at the premises of the Austrian Ombudsman Board to discuss the common goal of “protecting and promoting human rights”, and review possible areas of collaboration between the IOI and the UN. 

“As host of the IOI, an active exchange at the international level is of utmost importance for Austria”, underlined Secretary General Schwarz. The meeting provided an opportunity to discuss important matters with High Commissioner Türk, such as the situation in Ukraine, the worldwide protection and support of Ombudsman under threat, and the IOI’s efforts to further strengthen its ties with the UN and possible areas of collaboration with the UN and its bodies.

The Secretary General also took the opportunity of this meeting to extended a first informal invitation to UN High Commissioner Türk to the 13th IOI World Conference and General Assembly in The Hague in May 2024.
