CANADA | Veterans Ombud announces the 2024 Commendations recipients

On 28 November 2024, the Veterans Ombud Colonel (Ret’d) Nishika Jardine presented nine 2024 Veterans Ombud Commendations to recipients at a virtual ceremony. The award recognizes and honours the dedication, hard work and selfless motivation of an individual or group's contribution to Canada's Veterans and their families.

The 2024 recipients are: 

  • Individual Contribution: Sergeant Darren Reid
  • Individual Contribution: Matthew Anderson
  • Individual Contribution: Amanda E. Anderson
  • Individual Contribution: Edward Albert Miller
  • Individual Contribution: Ian Edward Atkins
  • Lifetime Contribution: Robert Gregg Hemlow
  • Lifetime Contribution: Ronald G. Mostrey
  • Contribution by a Local Organization: Can Praxis
  • Contribution by a National Organization: Team Rubicon Canada

Selection is made by the Veterans Ombud, in consultation with the Veterans Ombud Advisory Council.

The Office of the Veterans Ombud investigates complaints and challenges the policies and decisions of Veterans Affairs Canada where it finds individual or systemic unfairness. It strives to be an independent and respected voice for fairness and a champion for the well-being of Veterans and their families.
