The Waka Tangata APOR E-News includes news and views from integrity organisations in the Pacific and Australasian Region. Issue 8 of the Waka Tangata APOR E-news is now available online.
Issue 8 of the Waka Tangata E-news reports about the introduction of Rōpu Māori Hononga Hapori, the Māori & Community Engagement Team at the Office of the Ombudsman of New Zealand, to lead cultural transformation and to build and support the office’s community outreach programme with a focus on Māori, Pacific, Asian and youth communities.
The newsletter congratulates the National Human Rights Institution Samoa on its re-accreditation as an “A”-status member by the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions (GANHRI) and the Ombudsman Tonga, whose role has been enshrined in the Constitution on the 20th anniversary of the Office.
The Waka Tangata informs about the most recent own motion investigations carried out and initiated by the Office of the Ombudsman of Hong Kong, such as an investigation into the Government’s enforcement against unauthorised building works or measures and usage of on-street parking spaces designated for persons with disabilities. The newsletter further informs about four reports recently released by the Office of the New South Wales Ombudsman, such as the annual report of the Child Death Review Team or the a special report to Parliament about the procurement conduct of the Department of Planning & Environment.
