SPAIN | Workshop «prisons and gender»

On 30 November 2021, the workshop «Gender y prisons» will take place, organised by the Spanish NPM and the Illustrious College of Lawyers of Alcalá de Henares.

After a previous presentation of the main aspects identified and the achievements of the NPM's «prisons and gender» project, as well as the experience of the Bar Association of Alcalá de Henares, there will be a discussion with the members of the Bar Association who will participate via zoom, on the following topics:

  • Women in prison: data disaggregated by sex; Roma minority women variable; forms and registers with inclusive language; distance between the place of origin and the prison: compensatory actions; videoconference; spaces.

  • Prevention of discrimination against women and LGBTI persons in prison: training of civil servants, technical and health staff; Suicide Prevention Programme and support inmates; psychiatric and psychological care; coercive means.

  • Gender Violence: protocols and semi-structured interviews; social file in Open Section; Sermujer Programme, Abuse Protocol.

  • Health: sensory deficits and loss of abilities due to age; health diagnosis; health promotion activities; therapeutic alternatives to drug use, periodic explanation of the Individual Treatment Programme; comprehensive approach to drug addiction; equal opportunities for drug dependence treatment.
