The English-language version of the 2019 Annual Report of the Danish Parliamentary Ombudsman has now been published. Niels Fenger, who took up the position of Parliamentary Ombudsman on 1 December 2019, points out the value of uncovering recurring errors in order to help many citizens at the same time and stresses that a guiding principle for him is to apply the institution’s resources where they can be of the greatest possible use in protecting citizens’ legal rights.

Inauguration of sixth Control Yuan and establishment of National Human Rights Commission
The President and Members of the sixth Control Yuan (CY) were inaugurated on 1 August 2020, with Vice President Lai Ching-te presiding. The same day, the grand opening of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) was presided over by President Tsai Ing-wen, along with NHRC Chair Chen Chu, former CY President Chang Po-ya, and Member Upay Radiw Kanasaw. The establishment of the NHRC marks a milestone in Taiwan’s human rights development.

After giving his opening speech, His Majesty the King of the Netherlands revealed together with the future generation three paintings on the theme of the conference: working together for our tomorrow. This was followed by the speech of the keynote speaker, Ian Buruma, with the title: We Are the People: Citizenship, Identity and the Nation-State.
