Ontario Ombudsman wraps up annual Sharpening Your Teeth investigative training, announces dates for 2018 training
The Ontario Ombudsman’s Office hosted its annual advanced investigative training for administrative watchdogs on Oct. 16 -18, 2017. “Sharpening Your Teeth,” or SYT for short, has trained more than 700 ombudsmen, investigators and other watchdog agency staff at this Toronto course, from throughout Ontario, Canada and the world.

Human rights education starts with training of teachers
National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) chair Chu CHEN and Control Yuan (CY) members made a visit to the National Academy for Educational Research on 23 November 2020. The delegation discussed human rights education with deputy education minister Ching-Hwa TSAI and officials and researchers from the Department of Special Education, K-12 Education Administration, and National Academy for Educational Research.

The Ararteko – Ombudsman of the Basque Country and the Basque Parliament have jointly organized the seminar “The Law of the Ararteko. Proposals for the Future. Workshop for NPMs in Latin America
The International Ombudsman Institute (IOI), in close cooperation with the Association for the Prevention of Torture and the National Human Rights Commission of Mexico, held a workshop for National Preventive Mechanisms (NPMs) in the Latin American Region. The workshop was held in Mexico City and put a specific focus on the situation in the first hours of detention of women and LGBTI+ persons.

Ombudswoman requests constitutional review of the Mandatory Health Insurance Act amendments
Ombudswoman Tena Šimonović Einwalter submitted a request for a constitutional review of certain provisions of the amendments to the Mandatory Health Insurance Act to the Constitutional Court at the end of June. According to these provisions, some citizens are required to personally visit the Croatian Institute for Health Insurance every three months to maintain their health insurance coverage.
