AZERBAIJAN | A staff member of the Ombudsman Office spoke at an online event on 'Women and Cybercrime'

The United Nations (UN) Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) Regional Office for Central Asia held an online event on "Women and Cybercrime".

In general, during the event, which consisted of two sessions, the expert members of the UNODC, the UN Women and the UNICEF, as well as representatives of state institutions, law enforcement agencies and non-governmental organizations of Central Asia and the South Caucasus, made speeches. At the event, the topics related to gender equality best practices, innovative approaches, safe cyberspace for women and girls, the role of international cooperation in combating violence against women and cybercrime were discussed and a number of opinions were expressed.

While speaking at the event, Ms. Lamiya Zeynalova, Head of the Department on Protection of the Right to Information in the Ombudsman Office, said that the Azerbaijani Ombudsman is carrying out extensive activities in the field of restoring the violated rights of women, ensuring and promoting gender equality. Furthermore, the participants were informed that the Ombudsman pays specific attention to the issues, such as individual approach to the protection of the rights of women from different groups of the population, the improvement of legislation, the preparation and implementation of state programs and national action plans, and the provision of legal awareness on combating cybercrime and violence against women.

The extensive activity of the Ombudsman of Azerbaijan in this field was evaluated as a positive experience.

In conclusion, the necessity of international cooperation and exchange of experience was emphasized for more effective organization of activities in the field of protection of women's rights and fight against cybercrime.
