AOMA | African Ombudsman Research Centre opens in South Africa

On 15 March 2011 the African Ombudsman Research Centre of the African Ombudsman and Mediators Association (AOMA) was launched by South African President Jacob Zuma at the University of Kwazulu-Natal in Durban, South Africa.

More than 37 ombudsman and mediators from across the African continent attended the opening ceremony. The International Ombudsman Institute (I.O.I.) has sent its warmest congratulations to AOMA for realizing this ambitious project. This research centre is a focal point for ombudsman offices in Africa. It most definitely represents an important platform for the exchange of knowledge and best practice and will doubtlessly be of great value for the African ombudsman community. Adv. John R. Walters, National Ombudsman of Namibia, was therefore delighted to officially represent the I.O.I. at this important event in his function as Regional Vice-President of the I.O.I.’s African Region.
