The 9th convention of the members of the Association des Ombudsmans et Médiateurs de la Francophonie (AOMF) culminated in the adoption of the Québec Declaration, which calls for strengthening and consolidation of mediation institutions as promoters of democratic values, the rule of law and respect for human rights.
The event, which took place at the National Assembly of Québec, in Canada, from October 13 to 15, 2015, brought together participants from Africa, Europe and the Americas. Under the theme Champions of good governance and custodians of government integrity, the convention gave ombudspersons the opportunity to discuss issues such as their concrete role in a context of crisis in state governance and government integrity and transparency.
Created in 1998, today the Association des ombudsmans et médiateurs de la Francophonie brings together 49 member institutions. From 2013 to 2015, the Association was headed by Ms. Raymonde Saint-Germain, the Ombudsperson for Québec. Further to the Québec convention, Mr. Marc Bertrand, Mediator of Wallonie and of the Fédération Wallonie-Brussels (Belgium), was elected President for a three-year term of office. The AOMF receives financial support from the Organisation internationale de la Francophonie.
