AFRICA | APT project report on preventing torture in Africa

This report marks the end of a three-year project entitled “A Continent United Against Torture”, a collaboration between the Network of African National Human Rights Institutions (NANHRI) and the APT, which sought to strengthen the role and capacity of African NHRIs to prevent torture.

The publication is based on a questionnaire sent to all participating NHRIs and reflects the structure of the questionnaire. The responses of each NHRI are presented on one page, in alphabetical order by country. It outlines in which project activities they took part over the three-year period and the impact it has had on their work to prevent torture.

The publication includes reports from Algeria, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Côte d’Ivoire, Comoros, Ghana, Guinea Bissau, Guinea, Kenya, Madagascar, Malawi, Mali, Mauritania, Mauritius, Morocco, Namibia, Niger, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, South Africa, Sudan, Togo, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

The online versions of this project report are available in English and French on the APT Website. There are also four short videos which illustrate the main project themes and concrete examples of the results of the project. Both the report and the videos can be valuable tools to further raise awareness and promote the prevention of torture, in Africa and beyond.
