PAKISTAN | Awareness campaign carried out in Southern Region i.e. Karak, Bannu and Miranshah (Nearly Merged District)

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Provincial Ombudsman carried out an awareness raising campaign in the Southern Region of the Province in May 2024. This project was supported by the IOI's Regional Subsidy Programme.

After formulating and approval of a proper strategy, a detailed plan of different activities was prepared. Mr. Jamil ur Rehman, Focal Person from the Directorate of Higher Education Peshawar was consulted for indicating Colleges for the subject activities. Accordingly, the following Colleges were selected. Principals of these colleges were informed and taken on board.

The campaign was arranged in the following districts, which are located in a backward area of the province:

  • Govt. Post Graduate College, Karak
  • Govt. Post Graduate College, Bannu
  • Govt. Post Graduate College, Miranshah

The Hon'ble Ombudsman formulated a plan of activities to be carried out in these districts. However, Miranshah is one of the most backward and high militancy hit areas of the province. Before entrance to the area of the Newly Merged District of Miranshah, District Administration was taken on board and registration of the team members were shared with them. The District Administration highly appreciated the visit to educate the people of the backward area. In order to inform the locals of the area about the role and responsibilities of the Ombudsman Institution, Government Post Graduate College Miranshah was selected for the purpose. The Awareness Campaign session was held in the said college on 16 May 2024 at 10.30 A.M.

The audience highly appreciated the presence of the Ombudsman office in the province where the public can get free of cost justice. According to them, it was the first official visit of staff members of such institutions to their area during a high security risk situation. The audience also requested opening of a regional or sub office in Bannu. So that the public of their area can get free and speedy justice at their doorstep.

During the awareness session, the following activities were performed in every college:

  1. Large size Panaflexes with IOI Monogram were displayed on the wall of the College Hall both inside and outside.
  2. Brochures and informative materials were distributed amongst the audience.
  3. Speeches were delivered about the aim and objectives of the awareness campaign.
  4. Participants were informed about the purpose of the visit as well as opening of new regional office at District D.I.Khan. They were also informed as to how a complaint can be lodged, process of investigation and implementation of the recommendations issued by the Ombudsman.
  5. Letters of thanks for redressal of grievances received from aggrieved persons were shared amongst the audience.
  6. Question / answer session was conducted.
  7. Participants were informed about the official social media page of the office to like and follow it so that updates can be received to them.

At the end, honour shields were presented to all the Principals of the Colleges and paid thanks for their cooperation.
