On 15 September 2017 Commissioner for Human Rights Adam Bodnar presented a report on the status of the observance of human rights in Poland to the Sejm.
In his speech to Parliament Commissioner Bodnar reported that his office dealt with over 50 thousand cases of people who turned to the Commissioner in the belief that the state and public institutions violated their rights.
He then highlighted some of the most dramatic cases such as the death of a young man at a police station after being shocked with a taser or the matter of homelessness where he once again stresses the need for coordinated action.
The Commissioner also highlighted the citizens’ right to court and stressed that an independent court is a guarantee of human rights and freedom.
