TAIWAN | Control Yuan signs cooperation agreement with Médiateur du Faso

A delegation led by the head of Médiateur du Faso, Ms. Alima Déborah Traore, visited the Control Yuan (CY) on the morning of March 8, 2016. They first met with CY President Dr. Chang Po-ya at her office; then the two sides signed a cooperation agreement in the CY plenary meeting. Ms. Traore also expressed her sympathy to the affected in the great earthquake that struck Tainan last month, and observed a minute’s silence before delivering a speech on the same occasion.

In her opening remarks, President Chang extended a warm welcome to the delegation, and briefly explained the CY powers and functions. She noted that Burkina Faso has long been the ROC’s staunchest ally in western Africa, and the agreement signed today heralded a new era of exchange on ombudsmanship between the two nations.

After the signing ceremony, Ms. Traore gave a talk to the floor and thoroughly explained the legal structure and powers of the Médiateur du Faso. She noted that comparing CY’s core duty of supervising the administration, her office puts main focus on mediating disputes between citizens and the government, hoping to have conflicts settled before happening. In her speech, Ms. Traore also thanked the ROC government for donating twenty-six new computers in replacing the old ones used in their local branch offices.

Since March 8 was also the International Women’s Day, Ms. Traore sent her greetings to the female attendees in the room. She praised that CY President and many Members have been served by excellent females, so she wished to encourage more women in Burkina Faso to participate in public affairs. After the speech, many CY members posed questions regarding practical matters about her office and had a lively discussion with Ms. Traore.

The delegation also enjoyed a guided tour at the Control Yuan, including visiting the Complaint Receipt Center to learn its daily practices. President Chang also hosted a luncheon for the delegation on the same day. She presented flowers to the female guests in celebration of Women’s Day, and hoped for joint efforts to promote gender equality issues in the future.
