BackDuring the 7th Seminar of National Ombudsmen held in April 2009, the EU Ombudsman informed the national ombudsmen of his intention to draft a statement of ethical principles for EU civil servants.
In order to take full account of best practice in the Member States, the EU Ombudsman sent out a questionnaire to the national Ombudsman institutions in Europe specifically asking them to comment on his suggestions as regards the scope and contents of a future statement of ethical principles and to inform him of any national or international documents, which could be useful in the drafting process.
You can find the final report now online to which 20 institutions contributed. The EU Ombudsman announced that the next stage in the process will be a public consultation on a draft statement of principles.
