On 3 March 2011, Mr Juris Jansons was elected to the post of Ombudsman by the Latvian Parliament.
Mr Jansons replaces the previous Ombudsman, Mr Romāns Apsītis. Mr Jansons was previously the chairman of the board of health insurance company Rigas slimokase (RSK), and, from 5 February of last year, was appointed as the company's liquidator.
Mr Jansons is a graduate of the University of Latvia's School of Law and has a Master's Degree in Economics from the University of Latvia. Mr Jansons will take office after his oath at the Parliament.
