THE NETHERLANDS | Former ombudsman Alex Brenninkmeijer has passed away

Former National ombudsman Alex Brenninkmeijer has passed away on 14 April at the age of 70. He held the office from 2005 till 2014.

Reinier van Zutphen: “We remember and will remember Brenninkmeijer in our work every day. A big part of how we work today, we owe to him."

In 2012 Alex Brenninkmeijer was chosen as the president of the European Board of Directors of the International Ombudsman Institute (IOI). He was also a member of the World Board of the IOI.

In his leaving as the National Ombudsman in 2014, Brenninkmeijer was awarded a Royal decoration. Since 2014 he was a part of the European Court of auditors.
