The former Irish Ombudsman Kevin Murphy, who succeeded the first Ombudsman Michael Mills in 1994, has passed away on 4 March 2012. Kevin Murphy, who executed the office of the Irish Ombudsman in the years from 1994 to 2003 died on Sunday at the age of 75.
Paying tribute to Murphy’s exemplary manner and the outstanding commitment to his duties IOI Secretary General Dr Peter Kostelka pointed out his achievements and emphasized in a letter to the current incumbent Emily O'Reilly: “In his function Kevin Murphy contributed significantly to strengthening the concept of ombudsman ship and dedicated his work to the principles of good administration. Kevin Murphy will certainly be greatly missed within the international ombudsman community, both as a valued colleague and a friend”.
