NETHERLANDS | Guido van Woerkom elected as National Ombudsman

Guido van Woerkom has been elected by Parliament as the new National Ombudsman of the Netherlands. Mr Van Woerkom follows former Nation Ombudsman Alex Brenninkmeijer and will take office in November 2014.

Following the resignation of Alex Brenninkmeijer, who left his position as former National Ombudsman for the Netherlands to become a member of the European Court of Auditors, Mr Van Woerkom has been elected by Parliament as the new National Ombudsman of the Netherlands.

Mr Van Woerkom is currently managing director of the Royal Dutch Touring Club ANWB. ANWB has over four million members. Mr Van Woerkom will take office in November 2014.

The National Ombudsman is independent and impartial and he is there to defend your interests. He also keeps a critical eye on government. After Mr Alex Brenninkmeijer left the institute at the end of 2013 and until Mr Van Woerkom will take office in November 2014, Mr Frank van Dooren, is the acting National Ombudsman. He has 170 support workers to help him do the job. There are two deputy ombudsmen: Mrs Adriana Stehouwer and Mr Marc Dullaert (children’s ombudsman).
