UKRAINE | Ombudsmen of Ukraine and the Russian Federation will meet in Kharkiv

The Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights, MsValeriya Lutkovska, and the Commissioner for Human Rights of the Russian Federation, Ms Ella Pamfilova, coordinated previously planned organizational meeting with participation of representatives of the UN monitoring mission in Ukraine, activists and human rights defence activists of Ukraine and Russia.

Following results of a meeting it is planned to create a joint human rights defence mission on monitoring and prevention of human rights violations in the territory of Donetsk and Lugansk regions. Besides, Ombudsmen of both countries plan to make the joint statement to warring parties concerning immediate and unconditional release of all forcibly detaining persons and the termination of this unacceptable practice. Also tasks and regulations of work of joint human rights defence mission will be coordinated.

As it was informed, activists and human rights defence activists of Ukraine and Russia who carry out monitoring of human rights violations in Donetsk and Lugansk regions of Ukraine, applied to Ombudsmen of both states to undertake joint efforts for the termination of mass human rights violations in the conflict region.

We will remind, on May 28, 2014, having received the address from activists and human rights defence activists of Ukraine and Russia, Ms Valeria Lutkovska at once expressed full support to an initiative of human rights defence activists concerning monitoring visit to Donetsk and Lugansk regions.
