POLAND | Human Rights Defender’s visit to Austria

The Polish Human Rights Defender, Prof. Irena Lipowicz, together with President Bronisław Komorowski participated in the commemoration of 68th anniversary of the liberation of the German Nazi concentration camp Mauthausen-Gusen near Linz on May 5.

On 6 May, Prof. Lipowicz met with FRA representatives in Vienna. The discussion concentrated on fighting xenophobic and anti-Semitic attitudes emerging especially during times of economic recession. As a countermeasure a special need to emphasize examples of successful integration of minorities into the EU societies was underlined by all participants.

Also in Vienna Prof. Lipowicz attended the celebration of the 60th anniversary of the Institute for the Danube Region and Central Europe (IDM) on May 7. IDM is an institution which helps to implement Austrian and European regional policy.
