BackIn a report released on 7 November 2014, the Québec Ombudsman recommends that all children 6 to 16 years old living in Québec have access to public education, regardless of their or their parents’ immigration status. Universal access to education is not only in the interest of children, but of society as a whole because education clearly contributes to integration within the community.
According to the Québec Ombudsman, the fact that some children are currently left out is a violation of these children’s basic right to education and contravenes the Convention on the Rights of the Child, ratified by the Government of Canada and to which Québec has declared itself bound.
