australia | Mr Laurence Riley commences as Assistant Ombudsman Aboriginal Engagement and Collaboration

Chris Field, President of the International Ombudsman Institute (IOI) and Western Australian Ombudsman, appointed Mr Laurence Riley as Assistant Ombudsman Aboriginal Engagement and Collaboration in the Office of the Ombudsman of Western Australia.

“I am humbled and absolutely delighted that Mr Laurence Riley has commenced as Assistant Ombudsman, Aboriginal Engagement and Collaboration. This position, the first in the fifty-year history of the office of the Western Australian Ombudsman, is also a key member of the Corporate Executive. Laurence is a Noongar man from the Wilmen, Menang, Kenang and Ballardong Clan groups of the Noongar nation” said Ombudsman Field.

“The Assistant Ombudsman leads an Aboriginal Engagement and Collaboration Team, currently comprised of a Principal Consultant and a Senior Adviser. The Assistant Ombudsman has a critical role providing strategic leadership and high-level advice to support the office of the Ombudsman in all of its work, with a particular focus on the impact on, and delivery of services to, Aboriginal Western Australians. The Assistant Ombudsman also leads the office’s national and international engagement with Aboriginal Australians and first nations and first peoples globally” said Ombudsman Field.
