On 9 June, Justice of the Supreme Administrative Court Elisabeth Rynning was elected unanimously by Parliament to be the new Chief Parliamentary Ombudsman.
Elisabeth Rynning was born in 1955 and has been a justice of the Supreme Administrative Court since 2012. She took a doctor’s degree in public law in 1994, and was appointed a Reader in Public Law in 1996 and a Professor in Medical Law at Uppsala University over the period 2003–2012. Elisabeth Rynning has been the author and co-author of a large number of Swedish and international scientific publications within, primarily, the field of Medical Law, including areas such as care and research, and the use of new technology.
She has also taken part as an expert/specialist in several public investigations concerning, for example, patient data, protective measures in care and welfare, and biobanks. In addition, she has been a board member of the National Centre for Knowledge on Men’s Violence against Women, the Swedish Agency for Health and Care Services Analysis and the expert group of the Science Council for research ethics and the Press Ombudsman Council.
Elisabeth Rynning is due to take on her duties as Chief Parliamentary Ombudsman on 5 September 2016.
