BackVolume 6 of the ORC Insights informs about the office’s second annual report pursuant to the Public Interest Disclosure and Whistleblower Protection Act. For the fiscal year 2015/2016 the office received 16 inquiries under its whistleblowing program and completed three full investigations which entailed significant contact with whistleblowers.
In addition, the September edition of the OCR newsletter reports on an eyeglass recycling project at the Bishop’s Falls Correctional Centre, with the view of giving the gift of improved sight to people around the world. Since October 2015 inmates and staff have processed nearly 50,000 pairs of glasses and inmates indicated that they are glad to help and thankful for the opportunity to “not just serve time, but serve while doing time.”
