The Office of the Ombudsman in Malawi has taken to Kasungu for two-week Mobile Accountability Clinics.
The clinics are a proactive mechanism that the Office of the Ombudsman uses to take the Office to the people reaching the heart of communities in the rural areas or areas that are far from the main office.
This is done to sensitize and empower people to identify and report acts of maladministration causing injustices.
The Mobile Accountability Clinics are being done in collaboration with National Initiative for Civic Education (NICE) with funding from United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
In a quest of raising awareness and sensitizing the people about the ongoing Mobile Accountability Clinics, Ombudsman Grace Malera on July 19, 2024 engaged communities in the district through Kasungu Community Radio.
During the special exclusive program, the Honorable Ombudsman took time to explain to the listeners what the Office of the Ombudsman is all about, what it does, its mandate and functions.
Before the radio program Ombudsman Malera and her team also had an interface with officials from the Kasungu District and Municipal Councils.
She challenged the Public Officers to be diligent, ethical and professional in their work if Malawi is to succeed in fighting maladministration and upholding administrative justice.
Director of Planning and Development for Kasungu District Council Wezi Zimba hailed the Ombudsman for endeavoring to bridge the information gap between it, communities and public officers.
The Mobile Accountability Clinics in Kasungu started on Monday July 15, 2024 and so far the team has been to Wimbe, Mangwazu, Kaomba, Chulu, Chinyama, Kalikokha, Chilowamatambe and Mnyanja Area Development Committees.
And from July 22, 2024 to July 26, 2024 the team will be in Kaphaizi, Mdunga, Kaluluma, Chisinga, Kapichila, Chikwa, Nyaza, Kapelula, Chisikwa and Njombwa ADCs.
