PERU | Ombudsman calls on citizens to participate in upcoming general elections and respect results

The Ombuds Office expresses its confidence in the electoral system. 

Lima, 2 June 2011. With regard to the upcoming general elections, the Ombuds Office calles on the population to take part in Sunday's voting and urges citizens to accept its results as the expression of the public will which will contribute to the democratic consolidation of our country. That is how Ombudsman Eduardo Vega put it, who asserted that the Peruvian electoral system was fit to guarantee transparency and reliable results.

The political parties, national and international observers, the media and, generally, all citizens can freely exert their right to monitor the process and report possible irregularities using the legally provided means, he added.
