It is with tremendous sadness and sorrow that the International Ombudsman Institute (IOI) has learned that Dr. Edgardo José Bistoletti, Ombudsman of the Province of Santa Fe (Argentina) and member of the IOI Board of Directors, passed away on Friday, 18 April 2014 after a short but severe illness.
Dr. Bistoletti was an outstanding Ombudsman, passionately dedicated to his work and fully committed to the principles of a fair and transparent administration. In February 2013, Dr. Bistoletti was elected to the IOI Board of Directors as the Latin American representative of the Caribbean & Latin American Region of the IOI. Unfortunately we only had the privilege of working with him on the IOI Board for a short time, but this sufficed to see that Dr. Bistoletti was a person who devoted himself deeply to the ombudsman concept and was ambitious to send the message of the IOI and its work out to the Latin American world to forge tighter links between the IOI and ombudsman institutions on the continent.
We all got to know our esteemed colleague as a very passionate speaker on behalf of ombudsmanship and we highly valued his open and friendly nature, his professional presence and his advice, which he always brought to the discussion with wit and wisdom.
His passing is an enormous loss for the IOI as well as the international ombudsman community! Dr. Edgardo José Bistoletti will be greatly missed and our thoughts and prayers go out to his wife, his children, his entire family and friends as well as his colleagues.
