BackIt is with great sadness that the IOI has learned of the passing of Mr Guido Schuermans, Honorary-Federal Ombudsman of Belgium on 23 August 2018.
Mr Schuermans was an outstanding Ombudsman and a distinguished member of the International Ombudsman Institute (IOI).
He was passionately dedicated to the protection of human rights and fully committed to the principles of a fair and transparent administration. Colleagues, who had the pleasure of meeting Mr Schuermans in person, highly valued his professional presence and his personal engagement in protecting the most vulnerable groups of society, such as children, refugees and national minorities.
Mr Schuermans’ passing is a tremendous loss! On behalf of the members of the IOI, we would like to express our deepest sympathy and condolences.
