As head of the independent State body that defends citizens' rights, the Ombudsman, Maria Lúcia Amaral, accepted the request of the prime minister to lead the process of compensation to the families of the five mortal victims of the collapse of Municipal Highway, in the borough of Borba, in the south of the country.
The government resolution gives the Ombudsman the task of setting the deadlines and procedures for claiming compensation and determining the amount to be paid in each individual case.
Unlike in the case of compensation for the great fires of 2017, also conducted by this State body, it will also be for the Ombudsman to establish in advance the criteria for compensation to the families of the victims of the collapse in Borba, which should be completed by January 31, 2019.
The Ombudsman shall then publicly announce the deadlines for the submission of the applications and the procedures necessary for the holders of the right to compensation to be able to exercise them.
