IOI Webinar | Ombudsman Institutions and Open Government on 16 April 2014

On Wednesday, 16 April 2014, a webinar on the role of Ombudsman institutions in advancing open government will take place. The webinar is sponsored by Open Government Partnership (OGP), the World Bank Institute and the IOI and will aim to discuss the opportunities for Ombudsman offices to engage in their respective countries’ OGP processes. Ombudsman institutions, in their function as mediators between citizens and governments, play an important role in the promotion of open government. Therefore, the webinar will address questions concerning the role of Ombudsman offices in the OGP process as well as possible entry points.

European Regional President and Ombudsman of Ireland Peter Tyndall will be one of the two presenters of the webinar. The second presenter will be Prof. Tom Pegram, a lecturer in Global Governance at University College London who specializes in the study of human rights ombudsmen.

The webinar will provide information about the overlapping policies between Ombudsman offices and OPG and is targeted at representatives of Ombudsman offices, World Bank staff as well as OGP stakeholders such as civil society organisations. A similar OGP webinar in Spanish is being scheduled on 27 May with the Defensoría del Pueblo from Peru and the Defensoría de los Habitantes from Costa Rica.

The IOI kindly invites all of its member institutions to join the webinar which will take place between 10 and 11 AM EST.
