The Ombudsman for the Ministry of Interior Bahrain has released his fifth Annual Report for the period 2017/2018.
Information relating to the 2017/2018 performance of the Ombudsman Office shows that 334 complaints were received, 120 of which were referred, following Ombudsman investigation, for criminal or formal disciplinary investigation. 760 additional requests for assistance, relating to issues such as the arrangements for prison and detention centre visits, phone calls, medical services and access to education, were also received.
The Office was established as part of the Bahraini government’s response to the recommendations of the Bahrain Independent Commission of Inquiry (BICI).
