PAKISTAN | Ombudsman Sindh becomes active on "Mehran Bungalows"

The company which filed the complaint had signed a joint venture agreement with the local authorities to launch, execute and finalize this building project. As determined within the agreement the department was bound to release the payments of running bills within 15 days and not to withdraw the funds for any other purposes. The firm alleged withdrawal of huge funds from the scheme and delay in payment of dues.

Investigating this complaint the case againts the local authorities turned out to be true. Therefore Mr Asad Ashraf Malik, Ombudsman Sindh issued directives to the Secretary Local Government to stop diverting funds from the project and to acquire the services of Chartered Accountants to get the accounts audited. In addition the Ombudsman instructed the authorities to ensure the payment of outstanding amount to the complainant. Finally the Ombudsman advised the agency to initiate disciplinary actions against the officers involved in this financial maladministration.
