PAKISTAN | Ombudsman Sindh demands completion of water pipe line for residents

A complainant approached Provincial Ombudsman Sindh Mr Asad Ashraf Malik, for supply of potable water. According to details, residents of Liaquatabad were suffering from the acute shortage of safe drinking water and available water supply was contaminated and inadequate.

To provide relief to the complainant, Ombudsman Sindh issued directives to the authorities concerned to initiate an enquiry into this which disclosed that factually the available supply was insufficient and contaminated. As a consequence of intervention of this institution Executive Engineer Karachi Water & Sewerage Board prepared an estimate for laying water supply pipe of 90 mm diameter on emergent basis to meet the local requirement.

To redress the grievance of local community Ombudsman Sindh directed the Managing Director, Karachi Water & Sewerage Board to accord approval of the estimates and ensure early completion of the new water supply line in the area so that the supply of potable water, free from contamination, could be available to the residents. These orders were complied with and the grievance was redressed.
