A review of care for acutely sick patients in Wales will be launched in the New Year, following the publication of a Public Services Ombudsman for Wales thematic report.
Out of Hours : Time to Care highlighted a number of cases showing inadequate standards of care given to patients at hospitals in Wales. Ombudsman, Nick Bennett, said a review would ensure any confirmed emerging patterns or inconsistencies would be recognised and addressed.
The Welsh Government has now announced a peer review programme will look at the issue.
Nick Bennett, Public Services Ombudsman for Wales, said:
“I am delighted the Welsh Government has agreed to a peer review following the publication of our report, Out of Hours : Time to Care, earlier this year."
“I am keen to ensure public service users in Wales are given a voice when standards of care fall short of what is expected, and ultimately we learn the lessons from the past so others do not have to go through similar experiences. I will be in regular contact with the Welsh Government as the review progresses.”
