Guided by the objective to provide Ombudsman institutions worldwide with best practice papers on Ombudsman-related topics, the IOI Board of Directors endorsed the initiative of IOI 2nd Vice-President Peter Tyndall to elaborate an IOI policy paper on developing and reforming Ombudsman schemes.
The IOI would like to thank Peter Tyndall for making this first move and for pointing the IOI in a new and very important direction by drafting such document. It is guidance such as this that the IOI is planning to include to the range of its services in the near future.
The IOI Policy Paper on “Developing and Reforming Ombudsman Schemes – A guide for those undertaking these tasks” (see PDF further below) presents guidelines for establishing new Ombudsman schemes or for reforming existing ones. It is especially targeted towards Ombudsman institutions, Members of Parliament and external consultants in this field. It is designed to provide Ombudsman institutions in general and our members in particular with a sound basis for discussion with their respective Parliaments or other stakeholders.
The IOI Board of Directors agreed to bring this paper to the attention of the wider Ombudsman community and to invite input from fellow Ombudsmen, partner organisations and the academia to ensure that this policy paper will be of assistance to Ombudsman institutions worldwide to the best extent possible while also fitting the purpose and principles of the IOI as an organisation.
Your comments and input are highly appreciated and can be sent to the IOI General Secretariat until 10 October 2016. The IOI is looking forward to you active contribution and to reading your comments and feedback!
