In 2024, the Office of the Queensland Ombudsman celebrates 50 years since its establishment. For over half a century, this Office has given the people in Queensland free, impartial and confidential service and evolved to meet the changing needs.
Today, the institution:
- gives people a timely, effective and independent way to have administrative actions of agencies investigated
- improves the quality of decision-making and administrative practice in government agencies
- reviews the management of public interest disclosures, provide education and advice to agencies as the oversight agency
- promotes the humane treatment of detainees and the prevention of harm through reviews, inspections and independent reporting.
“Our 50th anniversary is a significant moment for this Office and for the people we serve. We are proud of our history and the positive impact we have had on the
lives of Queenslanders," said Anthony Reilly, Queensland Ombudsman and Inspector of Detention Services.
“I thank those who have held the Ombudsman role over the past 50 years, and the Office’s employees, past and present, for their contributions. I also want to thank the many public sector employees who we engage with in our work for the positive and open way in which they continue to support this Office,” said Mr Reilly.
