CANADA | Registration open for SYT Training in Toronto in January 2015

Registration is now open for the next session of Ontario Ombudsman André Marin's training course for ombudsmen and administrative investigators, "Sharpening Your Teeth: Advanced Investigative Training for Administrative Watchdogs." The course, which is tailored for oversight agencies and those who work in similar fields, will be held January 19-21, 2015, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada at Twenty Toronto Street, the Ontario Bar Association Conference Centre.

"At this advanced investigative training course, we make sure participants leave with a clear understanding of how to conduct a focused, thorough investigation - from planning the investigation, to interviewing witnesses, to writing persuasive and compelling reports," said Mr. Marin. "We walk participants through exercises to demonstrate how our own large-scale investigations are conducted, as well as offer case studies and practical examples of our work. We want participants to master the techniques and skills they need to become leaders in their respective oversight fields."

The three-day training course will cost $975 plus applicable taxes and will cover all the basics of planning, announcing, executing and publicly reporting on an investigation, including such topics as investigation planning, interviewing, assessing evidence, report writing, and using digital and social media tools to conduct and publicize an investigation.

In the past, the course has welcomed participants from around the world, including all across Canada, Australia, Bermuda, Kenya, South Korea, Israel, Brazil, Ireland, Holland, Thailand, and the Caribbean.

If you're interested in attending, take a look at previous editions of the course, read about the Ombudsman’s systematic investigations or just get in touch with the Office of the Ontario Ombudsman at: training@ombudsman.on.ca.
