IRELAND | Irish President marks 30 years of the Ombudsman in Ireland

To mark 30 years of the Office of the Ombudsman in Ireland President Michael D. Higgins hosted a reception for Ombudsman Peter Tyndall and the staff of the Office at the President's residence on 8 September.  President Higgins commented on the extended remit of the Office over the years which, he said, reflected the confidence the Oireachtas had in the Office.

As part of the Ombudsman's 30th anniversary the Office will also co-host a conference with the Institute of Public Administration on the theme of 'Responsibility and Accountability in the Public Service' on 7 November.  The Conference features a number of speakers including Dame Beverley Wakem, Chief Ombudsman, New Zealand, and Baroness Nuala O'Loan, former Police Ombudsman for Northern Ireland.
