According to the Ombudsman the current practice needs to be changed, so prisoners are not deprived of dietary standards, which met their needs at the detention facility they were moved from. Therefore, the Ombudsman argues, the practice should provide for a rule allowing to maintain the dietary requirements without introducing the repeated necessity to request specific meals in the new detention facility.
The current standard emphasizes, that maintaining the special dietary treatment is only possible, when a diet is prescribed by a doctor on the basis of its therapeutical effect. The Ombudsman requested the Director of Prison Service to express his opinion concerning this issue. The Director General has pledged to take the action in this matter.
