BackOn June 23, in a videoconference mode, High Commissioner for Human Rights in the Russian Federation Tatiana Moskalkova met with Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights Dunja Mijatović.
During the conversation, Tatiana Moskalkova told Dunja Mijatović about the activities of the High Commissioner during the pandemic. She told about the work of the hotline, as well as about the topics of complaints received by the Office of the federal ombudswoman.
"We looked at this topic in two main aspects. The first one is whether the state is taking sufficient measures to protect a person. And the second one is whether these measures are excessive," the federal ombudswoman emphasized.
The High Commissioner also noted that the main topic of appeals received during the first period of the fight against the pandemic was mainly related to the provision of personal protective equipment, COVID-19 testing within walking distance and emergency assistance.
"We received almost three thousand calls and electronic appeals regarding coronavirus," Tatiana Moskalkova said.
The High Commissioner also paid attention to the legal support of citizens in the context of the spread of coronavirus infection, as well as to the social protection measures adopted by the state.
Moreover, the federal ombudswoman spoke about the work on a special report on the protection of human rights in the context of combating the spread of coronavirus and about the work of a special monitoring group.
"For our part, we sent an alternative report to the UN Committee on our actions in the context of the pandemic, and I will be glad if you get acquainted with it," Tatiana Moskalkova said.
