In September 2013 the Forum of Pakistan Ombudsman held a Workshop on the Challenges of Ombudsmanship, where all of the 12 Ombudsman offices of Pakistan were represented. One month later, a special report regarding the activities during those two days, including an analysis of the major issues of relevance and recommendations based on the discussions, was released.
In the report, the president of the Forum, Mr Abdur Rauf Chaudhry, stated that it was imperative that the Ombudsman adopt a more proactive approach and address problems in a complex work environment, for example in the field of human rights and with a special focus on women and children. Special attention was also given to the empowerment of the Ombudsman in Pakistan, the training of its staff members, the projection of the Ombudsman in the media, political interference as well as the impact of judicial activism on workplace harassment of women.
