EUROPE | Statement by Network of National Human Rights Institutions on Human Rights Situation in Ukraine

The International Coordinating Committee of National Human Rights Institutions (ICC) held its annual meeting between 12 and 14 March 2014 at the United Nations Office in Geneva.

During the meeting of the European Network of National Human Rights Institutions at which various IOI members as well as the IOI Secretary General Dr. Günther Kräuter were present the human rights situation in Ukraine was discussed and a respective statement was passed.

On the occasion of the General Assembly Meeting of the International Coordinating Committee of National Human Rights Institutions (ICC) held between 12 and 14 March 2014 at the United Nations Office in Geneva, the European Network of National Human Rights Institutions (ENNHRI) made a statement on the human rights situation in Ukraine.

As a NHRI the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights which is also a member of IOI is playing a crucial role in the protection and promotion of human rights. It is also working constructively with civil society and international organisations in an effort to promote and protect human rights throughout Ukraine under challenging circumstances.

In its statement ENNHRI calls on the international community to engage with and support the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights in her work so as to ensure accountability for human rights violations by all actors, in particular of the right to life.
